Standard vs Academic Plan: Which Turnitin Check Is Right for You?

Compare report types, ideal use cases, and document requirements so you can choose confidently.

Last updated: June 2026

TurnitChecker offers two plans aligned with different stages of academic work. The Standard Plan is designed for everyday coursework and delivers both AI writing detection and similarity checking. The Academic Plan uses iThenticate — Turnitin's publishing-focused integrity solution used in scholarly workflows — and on TurnitChecker focuses on AI writing detection for high-stakes manuscripts.

On TurnitChecker, submissions are configured not to be added to Turnitin's student paper repository during processing.

Standard Plan — Everyday Academic Work

The Standard Plan is our best value option for regular assignments. Each check produces two reports: an AI writing report showing the estimated proportion of AI-generated or AI-modified text, and a Similarity Report showing matches to Turnitin's extensive database of academic and web sources.

This combination covers the two report types commonly used in student submission workflows — giving you visibility into both AI authorship signals and textual overlap before you upload to your school's portal. Results may differ from a later institutional submission because of repository settings, exclusion rules, account type, or report version differences.

  • Ideal for: essays, literature reviews, coursework, capstone drafts, and routine homework
  • You receive: 1 × AI Detection Report + 1 × Similarity Report
  • When to choose: you need to understand both AI flags and citation overlap in one check

Academic Plan — High-Stakes Research Submissions

The Academic Plan delivers an iThenticate AI writing report — the detection channel used in scholarly publishing and research integrity workflows. It is suited to manuscripts where the bar for originality and authorship transparency is highest.

Important: this plan does not include a separate Similarity Report on TurnitChecker. iThenticate supports similarity checking in publishing workflows; if you also need overlap checking on our platform, run a Standard Plan check on a separate draft or section, or confirm requirements with your target journal or institution.

  • Ideal for: dissertation chapters, journal articles, grant proposals, and pre-submission research manuscripts
  • You receive: 1 × iThenticate AI Detection Report
  • When to choose: your priority is publishing-focused AI authorship screening for publishable work

iThenticate (Academic Plan)

iThenticate is Turnitin's solution aimed at researchers, publishers, and organizations that need to screen manuscripts before publication.
